Rocks move
Pushed around by time
Mountains smooth
An alluvial fan
Drain to plain

Cactus endure
Like humans
Mostly water
Like people
Bristly on the outside

Cottonwoods breach
Reach a deep water seep
Hiding place revealed
By bright new green leaves
Making music and shade

Canyons and Pinyons
Share sinuous space
And are shaped the same
By water and wind
As is the very sand

Land from under oceans
Pushed around by time
Deserted crustaceans
Derelicts like junk
Float on sand

Wind resides here
As still as wind can be
Furious one moment
Then silent as stone
Leave you alone
